Electric floor heating systems have very low installation cost for smaller spaces (1-5 rooms) because they are easy to install (a thermostat is all that is required and costs only about £50-£100). Although electric floor heating systems work well as a primary heat source, most systems are installed in the kitchens and bathrooms to add comfort and warmth to hard floors. Its now a luxury you can afford.

Stone Versus Ceramics

The Under Floor heating debate.
Which is best for underfloor heating stone or ceramic ?

The straight answer is that they are about the same. Hard stones and porcelain are similar in structure and density and therefore conduct or absorb the heat from the element underneath at similar rate.

They also therefore release the heat at a similar rate, making the surface of the tiled floor feel warm under foot and thus warming the room.

The difference lies in the thickness of the material. Generally speaking a stone tile is thicker than a ceramic tile (not so of terracotta) and therefore it will absorb more heat energy. This means that it will take slightly longer to warm up by a matter of a few minutes. But it also takes longer to release the energy and so the stone floor will generally feel warm for longer after the heating system has been switched off.

Arguably then using a timer, the underfloor cables with a stone floor could be switched off earlier and still be releasing heat energy. So the $ Billion question is :

Q/ Which one uses the most energy and therefore costs the most ?

A/ They are both the same

The UFHD Classic Mat 160

- Excellent quality and amazing price

Classic Under Floor heating mat

The Classic mat makes a warm floor underfoot an affordable luxury, making any floor surface in any room a joy to walk on.

Use the Classic Mat if you want the thinnest cable in our range, to keep the floor height to a minimum.

It is widely accepted that heating mats are superior to loose cable systems, as they are much quicker to install and have regulated cable widths, so you always get a good even heat spread with no hot or cold spots.

Our Classic mat unlike competitor products has a fabric backing allowing adhesives to be fully absorbed, thereby allowing a perfect bond between the tiles and the sub-floor.
